The definition of “health” is the ability to function normally in society, with respect to the health of the body, mind and spirit. Description of health varies widely from person to person; it can be described as a state of complete well-being, including emotional, physical and social well being. This state can be achieved through exercise, diet, and stress management.
Health is a state of complete physical, mental and emotional well being where illness and disease are absent. It is the state where one experiences no pain and has no limitations of any kind. A healthy body and mind to produce a happy, fulfilling and active person. One needs to have a good balance between work, family life and personal responsibilities. A healthy lifestyle is essential for achieving this state.
The causes of health problems vary. The most common health problem is obesity. People gain weight due to unhealthy food habits and lack of physical activity, leading to various health problems. Other causes include unhealthy food habits, vitamin deficiency, lack of sleep and not getting enough fluids and nutrients during the digestive process.
One needs to identify the health problem at an early stage and look for treatment, so that the condition does not become severe. The earlier a problem is detected and treated, the lesser its effects on the body. Most people suffer from one health problem or the other at some point in their lives. Some diseases are chronic, meaning that they remain with a person throughout his or her life. Other diseases are usually temporary and heal themselves in time.
The most common health problem is being overweight or obese. Overweight people usually have poor health conditions because of the excess fat deposits that damage their health. Obesity also increases the risk of getting heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer and other serious diseases. People who are obese are more likely to develop health related problems like heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer and other medical conditions.
People who are overweight need to take steps to control their weight, otherwise they will eventually develop various other diseases like diabetes and cancer. Most people tend to ignore their weight and get obese, thinking that it is not serious. They then spend a large amount of money on various treatments that do not work. It is better to take immediate action to control weight in order to prevent other such diseases.
Obesity is not only a health problem; it can also be a social concern. In today’s world, people are becoming very conscious about their appearance, and this can lead to health complications if proper measures are not taken at an early stage. There are many self-help programs on television that offer tips on losing weight. However, if these programs are followed strictly, it will not lead to lasting weight loss and can instead result in health disorders.
Prevention is better than cure. This is also applicable in cases of health related issues. People need to understand that they do not become sick or remain healthy overnight. It requires healthy eating habits and daily exercise in order to maintain a healthy life. If people start living a healthy lifestyle, it can lower the risk of developing any of the health conditions mentioned above.
The media has played its part in creating this obsession with weight. Many people are now highly concerned about their weight, which could result in various health related problems like diabetes, heart disease and other such diseases. The media portrays attractive models and actresses with perfect bodies and makes people feel that they can have the same look by adopting a similar lifestyle. For example, if a person wants to get into ten thousand calories of fat burning exercise, he/she has the option to go for it. Similarly, the media portrays stress free and happy people who eat junk food and stay fit by doing little physical activity. Such type of images have created a wrong image about healthy living.
People have a right attitude towards health but it needs to be understood that everyone is not fit and healthy. There are several people who look perfect but they are physically sick. Hence, people should accept their imperfections and lead healthy and normal lives. Adopting a healthy and fit lifestyle needs a lot of commitment and people should try to reduce their health condition as much as possible.
It would be good if people could set out on a trip and realize their mistake of eating too much and exercising for a short duration only. If they realize their mistake and adopt a better lifestyle, they will live long and enjoy their life to the fullest without any health problems. This should be encouraged by all means including the media and the family. It would be ideal if people could take advice from their relatives and friends who have overcome health disorders and live a healthy life. Hence, it is necessary for people to adopt a healthy and nutritious lifestyle by regular exercise, eating nutritious food and taking proper health care and health medical treatment at the earliest.
